Improving your team’s effectiveness

I’ve just been working with a group of team leaders. Giving them practical tools to apply with their teams.

One of these is the ‘Strengths Cards.’  Developed by Innovative Resources, they are an excellent tool to help team members to reflect upon and articulate their strengths.

They also help to open up ‘blind-spots’ within a team, enabling team members to better understand the value of each others strengths.

Here’s one way to run the process:

  1. Lay out the 50 Strength Cards on a table or on the floor
  2. Ask team members to think about the strengths they have and the strengths they bring to this team
  3. Invite them to select 2-3 cards that best describe these strengths
  4. Discuss in pairs
  5. Discuss as a group (get the pairs to describe each others strengths

Simple. Powerful. Valuable.

How have you used the Strength Cards or similar tools?
