Providing feedback

Ever had to provide feedback to a colleague? What about a workshop participant? How did you feel at the time?

If you feel a little nervous about giving feedback – don’t worry – that’s normal. The good news is that there’s a simple model that can help you to step through the process. And it’s one you’re already familiar with – the AEIOU model.

Most of us used AEIOU when trying to work out the mystery of grammar at school.  In a feedback situation AEIOU can help you too.

The steps are:

A = Assume the other person means well

E = Express your feelings

I = Identify what you would like to happen

O = Outcome that will result

U = Understanding on the way forward

To give you more details I have prepared a short, two-page guide on providing feedback
